One of the most popular parks in Montana is the
Glacier National Park. Located near the Canadian border, this park
is home to two major mountains and over a thousand different
species of flora. This park is known as the crown of the continent.
This is protected land made up of more than sixteen thousand miles
of land. One of the most popular national parks in Montana is
Yellowstone National Park. Three of the five park's entrances are
located here. Being the first national park in the world, this park
is mostly located in Wyoming, but is often times entered through
Montana due to the proximity of attractions to the Montana
entrances. This is the home of Old Faithful Geyser. Yellowstone
Caldera is also located close to the Montana entrances. The Caldera
is considered to still be an active volcano.
Montana is home to over thirty six million acres of land federally
protected as state parks and wildlife refugees. One of the best
preserved sites and most often visited is the Lewis and Clark
National Historic Trail. The trail runs right through the entire
state of Montana. The trail has been preserved and is still in tact
according to the federal preservation act. The Little Bighorn
Battlefield is another great park to visit. It is preserved as a
memorial site of those that fought in the battle but is also a
preserved of history. There are reenactments held here on a regular
basis. Upon entering the fields there, you can meet some of the
actors and some of the local Indians that still live in the area
will tell you how the battle was won and some will even give you
history of their people and tell you tales of their people.
