Geography
Montana has a beautiful geography. If you are
one of those people that enjoy spending time in the outdoors and
you like vacationing in an area you can truly get away from it all,
Montana is the perfect place. About sixty percent of Montana is
made up of prairie land. This means that there are large stretches
of flat land broken up by mountains. Montana is home to one of the
longest mountain ranges, the Bitterroot Range which is the longest
range in the Rocky Mountains from Alaska to Mexico. The mountains,
lakes and rivers offer many tourist opportunities for the outdoor
enthusiast. Some of the best valleys to visit are the Bitterroot
Valley, Flathead Valley, and Gallatin Valley. The Gallatin Valley
is one of the most popular tourist destinations as the Big Sky
resort is located there and there is a large river near by that is
perfect for water skiing, or other water sports.
At one time, Montana was mostly occupied by the Indians. There are
still many Indian settlements, some no longer inhabited that are
now tourist attractions for anyone interested in history. The Crazy
Mountains is full of these sort of settlements. Another interesting
sight is the buttes. These are large rock formations that have
stood through all kinds or weather and have created interesting
land formations. The Hell Creek Formation is said to be home of
many dinosaur fossils. Montana is known for it's archeological
digging areas that have produced many Indian artifacts and dinosaur
bones and other hidden pieces of historical importance. One of the
most important finds in the area happened in 2001. Jane was the
first, most complete juvenile Tyrannosaurus Rex ever found. Many
people enjoy going to the site to see if they can't find their own
artifacts or souvenirs. On the side
